Unissant-supported PASS program receives FedHealthIt 2018 Innovation Award

DHA’s Pharmacy Analytics Support Services (PASS) program has received a FedHealthIT Innovation Award for 2018. Recognizing 26 of the top Federal Health programs and the teams behind these innovative efforts, the award recipients were nominated and chosen by their peers, standing out from the rest based on their willingness to take on achievable risk and, more importantly, to deliver real results in support of their mission.

The Pharmacy Analytics Support Section (PASS) is an integral component of the Pharmacy Operations Division (POD) providing data, analysis, and pharmacy benefit information. To address healthcare costs and support warfighters diagnosed with PTSD and opioid dependency, the PASS project developed effective tools to track and monitor prescriptions and drug treatments to ensure providers optimize treatment and patient safety. This included a controlled-substance provider profile with Pharmacy and Data Specialists to ensure that providers prescribing medication have the relevant specialization and expertise for medications that are dispensed, as well as algorithms to identify patients receiving long-term opioid therapy, to ensure those patients are enrolled in drug-level monitoring protocols and that they have antidotes on hand in case of accidental overdose.

“We’re deeply honored to receive this award,” says Dave Dougherty, Unissant’s EVP of Operations. “To have our team’s hard work in supporting the PASS mission recognized by our colleagues and peers in the industry is a great achievement.”

The FedHealthIT Innovation Awards and Networking Event took place at the National Press Club, “The Place Where News Happens.” For details, visit http://info.fedhealthit.com/.
